Kids To Go Behind The Scenes At Hamilton Zoo
Hamilton Zoo is set to make school holidays zoo-rific with its first-ever school holiday programme, a wild adventure packed with animal encounters, keeper tasks, and conservation fun.

Running weekdays from 22 September to 3 October 2025, the programme offers 7–12-year-olds a hands-on, conservation-focused experience developed in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute New Zealand.
"This programme is designed to ignite curiosity about how zoos care for animals, while deepening understanding of conservation and animal welfare,” said Hamilton Zoo’s Visitor Experience Manager Joe Henderson.
“It’s a chance for young minds to explore the vital role zoos play in protecting endangered species and promoting a more sustainable future for all living beings."
Young explorers will enjoy behind-the-scenes access to areas usually closed to the public, meet some of the zoo’s most fascinating animal residents, and tackle conservation-themed challenges.
“They’ll get to help with real keeper tasks like preparing animal feeds, creating enrichment activities, and learning how we keep our animals happy, healthy and safe.”
The programme runs weekdays between 8.15am - 4.30pm and can be booked per day or per week.
“We’re excited to offer wild learning, hands-on experiences, and unforgettable memories that encourage curiosity and care for the natural world.”
