Dr. Eric Chuah Auckland Mayoral Candidate Announced His Five Major Policies On Friday Sep 12

The Five Policies are as follows:

  1. Reinvesting the Auckland Futures Fund into a fixed deposit interest yielding instrument at 12-15% yielding $190.8 million annually to cap rate rises projected next year 2026 to be another 5.8% increase of $180 million on top of this years increase of 5.8%. 'The $190.8 million will ensure there will be no rate increases next year as it is capped. These will ensure that cost of living pressures will be eased on Auckland ratepayers who are bearing the brunt of servicing mortgages, paying bills and ever increasing rates'
  2. Establishing the Auckland Innovators Fund of $200 million that will focus on Auckland inventors of products and services and patent them under NZ Copyright laws. Assign mentor(s) to work with them and provide strategic management advice and align them with venture capital funds to grow these companies to reach a $2Billion Income and pare down our Auckland Council debt currently $14 Billion (an increase of $3 Billion in 3 years)
  3. Establishing a 'Road Cone Busters' Policy of a 10 men/women team to police and monitor any uncollected road cones after 'temporary traffic management' projects has been completed. As each road cone cost between $5-6 per cone charged to Auckland Council, apart from becoming road hazards clogging traffic and creating accidents. NZ Herald estimated the overspent on road cones to be $64 million and Stuff quoting incumbent Mayor at $145 million but 'research on the ground' indicates that this may be 'tip of the iceberg' ballpark figures. The projected savings could be approximately $300-$400 million from temporary traffic management companies overcharging Auckland Council.
  4. Create defined flood prevention and mitigation measures which should have been prioritized after January 2023 floods costing lives (5) and destroying thousands of homes in Auckland in Wairau Valley, Milford and other flood prone areas. The strategy and Action Plan is to install sensor cameras underneath stormwater and wastewater drains, to observe detect blockages. Instead only 5000 were installed 2 months ago. It only cost $12 million per 10000 sensor cameras. So I will increase it to 40000 sensor cameras costing only $48 million to monitor blockages in drains after downpours to save lives. This should have been done in February 2023.
  5. Implement Contextual Accelerated Planning (Stuff News) which is in line with current central government policy of building infrastructure to ease population pressures where demand in certain areas of housing requires intensification of housing, but only in 'context.' For example in suburbs like New Lynn and Sylvia Park where integrated rail and bus transport exists then 'building up' makes sense as there's hardly any space there. However it must comply with Auckland Unitary Plan to have 'urban greening of spaces' citing Singapore as an example of 'high density build' If ones build in say Beach Haven in North Shore (recently there were two 8 apartment each complex) no one buys it as they could buy property with land at $690000 so why buy an apartment for $800,000. The property developers lose money and are unhappy, the locals are unhappy with two large blobs of apartment blocking their views so my 'contextual accelerated planning' means 'linking and paring developers strategically' to develop in areas with high density population growth like Maungakiekie, Manukau, Mangere, Howick so it is a 'win win'.
