UPDATE: 12.30pm – Otago highways reopen after snow
Both State Highway 85 between Morrisons and Kyeburn, and State Highway 87 from Middlemarch to Outram, have reopened after closures due to snow.
Road users are urged to drive with caution through these areas.
UPDATE: 9.20am – SH85 in Otago also closed
State Highway 85 between Morrisons and Kyeburn has also closed this morning due to heavy snow.
Road users are urged to avoid the area or delay their journeys if possible.

7.35am – Snow closes SH87 in Otago
Heavy snow has closed State Highway 87 from Middlemarch to Outram this morning.
Road users are urged to avoid the area or delay their journeys if possible.
State Highway 8 from Alexandra to Roxburgh is subject to an area warning where road users are advised to take extra care due to snow.
Chains are required to be carried on State Highway 85 from Ranfurly to Alexandra, also due to snow.
An update will be provided later today as the road status changes.
