Time is running out to have your say in the 2025 Local Body Elections and the binding referendum on Māori Wards.

As at Thursday 2 October, 6,325 people (24.57%) across Horowhenua have returned their votes. That means more than 75% of eligible voters still need to make their voices heard.

Council’s Chief Executive Monique Davidson says, “This is about the future of our district. Every single vote counts, whether you’re choosing who represents you at the Council table or deciding on the future of Māori Wards from 2028. Please don’t leave it until the last minute.”

If your voting pack didn’t arrive, was damaged, you’re on the unpublished roll or if you enrolled after 1 August, you can still cast a special vote.

Special voting is available until Saturday 11 October, 12 noon at:

Levin – Horowhenua District Council Building

• Monday to Friday: 9am–5pm (Wednesdays from 9:30am)
• Including extra dates:
  • Saturday 4 October, 10am–3pm
  • Saturday 11 October, 9am–12 noon

Foxton – Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom

• Tuesday 7 October, 9am–12pm

Mrs Davidson says the process is simple and staff are ready to help. “We know life is busy, but voting only takes a few minutes. Visit the Council Building and make sure your voice is counted. Talk to your whānau, friends, and workmates and encourage them to vote as well.”

Key dates to remember:

• Last day to post your vote: Tuesday 7 October
• Final deadline: Votes must be in by 12 noon on Saturday 11 October

You can also hand-deliver your vote right up until midday on 11 October to an orange ballot bin located at the Council Building, Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom, Levin New World, Levin Pak n Save, Foxton New World, Manakau Market, or Shannon 4 Square. There are other bins but those ones will be removed on Friday as the location is not open on Saturday. For more info visit, horowhenu.govt.nz/Elections.
