Statement From Mayor Wayne Brown - My Pledge
Wayne Brown – Fix Auckland
“Let me be absolutely clear. I take great umbrage at the suggestion that I am ‘planning a rates hike’ — nothing could be further from the truth.
“From the moment I took office, I have worked extremely hard to keep rates down. We have the best track record of any urban Council this term.
“We’ve done that by tackling the real problem, wasteful spending and excessive costs. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the only way to deliver real results for households.
“Grandstanding PR stunts and spam emails are for the keyboard warriors. The real ratepayers are united in wanting common sense, a focus on targeting wasteful spending, and the hard graft of finding savings.
“This term we’ve dealt with rampant inflation, and we have delivered.
"I refused to sign their gimmicky pledge in 2022. Instead, I delivered on my actual promise to keep rates down by stopping the waste, and that is exactly what I will continue to do. That is my focus and pledge to Auckland.”
