Make A Bid Before The Library Hits The Road!

Nearly 150 items ranging from surplus shelving to a safe, and the innards of an old parking meter are up for grabs in the latest Masterton District Council online auction, this time primarily surplus equipment from Masterton District Library.

The library closes at its current site on Queen Street at 1pm on Saturday (25 October) , re-opening on 17 November at a temporary location at 45 Chapel Street, the next exciting step in the Breathing life into our whare pukapuka project, that will see the library upgraded and expanded over the next two years.

Library and Archive Manager Tiffany Rawlings said the auction would help find new homes for unwanted equipment – it doesn’t include books.

“We’re on the move and doing a big tidy-up, which means it’s a great chance for people to grab a bargain - or a quirky treasure.

“We’re auctioning off a range of furniture, shelving, office equipment and other bits we no longer need as we prepare for our temporary library space. This also includes some interesting finds from the old Town Hall.

“This is a great opportunity to re-use, recycle and support your local library at the same time.”

The auction is online here and closes on Tuesday, 4 November.

While the library will be closed for three weeks during the move, borrowers can help lighten the load and ensure they have plenty of reading material while the library is closed.

“We’d love people to borrow as many books as they like,” Tiffany said. “While we are closed, customers, can visit our digital library on our website for access to eBooks, audio eBooks, movies and graphic novels.

“We do want them back! But they won’t need to be returned until 17 November.”
