UPDATE 4:30 pm:
Efforts to reopen State Highway 6 between Kohatu and Murchison are progressing with the intention to have the route open to traffic by 7 pm tonight.
Coal Creek Bridge scour and underslip site:
Contractors have been building a single lane here today. One that will be capable of carrying heavy vehicles, meaning this site will be accessible to all traffic.
When it is open, it will operate under stop/go traffic lights with 30 km/h temporary speed limit. To prevent damage to the road and to vehicles, drivers must follow the lower speed limit.

Kohatu to Hope Saddle tree removal:
Removal and clean-up of wind fallen trees has been completed on this section of State Highway 6. The highway is now OPEN between Kohatu and Kawatiri Junction.
