UPDATE: 25 October, 11.30am – Remainder Of SH7 Expected To Reopen This Afternoon
The last remaining closed section of State Highway 7, between Tekoa Range/the Hanmer Springs turnoff and Springs Junction, is expected to reopen late this afternoon. A further update will be provided closer to the time.
This stretch of SH7 has been closed due to recent river erosion/scouring of the road near Engineers Camp, and surface flooding. Roading teams have been working on making it safe for travel for the rest of the long holiday weekend (see images below).
A single lane with traffic signals will be temporarily in place at the site of the work, and road users are asked to stop on demand.
State Highway 6 between Haast and Makarora (Haast Pass) remains closed, with a further update expected later today.
Inland Route 70/Inland Kaikoura Road also remains closed, between Waiau and Peketa, however this road is managed by the local council rather than New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
