For Every F*ck, You Give A Buck

Warning: this November contains frequent use of coarse language.

Movember, the leading men’s health charity, and partner The Alternative Commentary Club (ACC), is calling on Kiwis to swear like a sailor over the month of November with the launch of ‘Swear Cards’ - a golf-style scorecard where Kiwis tally swears, not swings on the golf course.

For every f*ck, sh*t and basta*d, Kiwis pony up one dollar to Movember, raising vital funds for men’s health.

In Aotearoa, New Zealand, more than two in five male deaths occur prematurely (41.8%) before they reach the age of 75.

Ischaemic heart diseases remain the leading cause of death in men, followed by cancer of the digestive system, and suicide, with three out of four suicides every year being men.

The sobering reality is that the majority of these fatalities are avoidable with the right support, timely treatment and open conversations.

With golf being the number one sport for Kiwi men, the course felt like the perfect place for Swear Cards to come to life. After all, few things test patience quite like chunking it off the green, and no one swears quite like a Kiwi with a bad shot.

But between the drives, divots and slices, is a long walk between holes - the perfect opportunity for men to talk within a safe space. It’s a chance to check in on mates and see how they’re really doing and make sure no one is carrying the heavy stuff alone.

Head of Movember New Zealand, Robert Dunne, says we’ve come a long way in shifting the sentiment around men’s health and as a result are seeing improved lifestyles and life spans, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.

“Everyone’s got a male in their life they love; a dad, a brother, a son, a partner, a mate. This is a sh*t hot new initiative that encourages men to show up for them in a way that feels real.

Men don’t always talk when things are tough, so we wanted to meet them where they are - on the golf course.”

“Swear Cards is a way to bring out a bit of banter, a reason to swear, and at the same time do something good to help support the men you care about, because sometimes a casual check-in between holes is what makes the difference,” he concludes.

New Zealanders can collect their Swear Cards at select Golf Pro Shops around New Zealand.
