Upcoming SH16 Closure To Complete Infrastructure Upgrade
State Highway 16 (SH16) will close in both directions between Trigg Road and Foster Road from 7pm Saturday 8 November to 5am Monday 10 November 2025 to replace a large stormwater culvert.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is upgrading or repairing utilities and infrastructure as part of Stage 1 of the SH16 Brigham Creek to Waimauku safety improvements project.
The work to replace the stormwater culvert includes digging a 4m deep trench to lay pipes under the state highway. These changes are designed to improve both infrastructure and safety in the long term.
During the closure, traffic will be
detoured via Trigg Road heading south-west and Foster
Road
heading north.
The short-term closure means we can have multiple crews working non-stop to complete the works as quickly as possible, and minimise disruption for residents and road users.
We’ve timed the closure for the period of the week with the lowest vehicles per day.
Fine weather is critical to success and work will be moved to another date if the work cannot take place on the planned dates.
Please allow extra time for your journey and be sure to follow all signage and detours as we complete this work.
