No Closure Required Tonight On SH1
UPDATE: 4 November – No closure required tonight on SH1
A closure planned tonight for State Highway 1 north of Christchurch is no longer required, but other night closures from tomorrow will continue.
Road resurfacing work is taking place between Oaro and the Conway River Bridge and there will now be closures over three nights from Wednesday 5 November to Saturday 8 November. This stretch of SH1 will be closed from 9pm to 5am each day, with a midnight opening each night to allow traffic through.
Detour route options will be available during the closures (see maps below; note that the detour route along State Highway 7 may not be suitable for overdimension vehicles).

Tonight, the roading teams will be working at the tunnel at Manuawa Rock, near Kaikōura, and stop/go traffic management means that road users should expect delays of up to 10 minutes at this site.
30 October – Reduced night-times closures next week on SH1
Changes because of recent weather and refinements to the work programme mean that night-time road closures required on State Highway 1 north of Christchurch next week will be considerably less in size than was previously planned.
Road resurfacing work is planned between Oaro and the Conway River Bridge over four nights from Tuesday 4 November to Saturday 8 November. This stretch of SH1 will be closed from 9pm to 5am each day, with a midnight opening each night to allow traffic through.
Detour route options will be available during the closures (see maps below; note that the detour route along State Highway 7 may not be suitable for overdimension vehicles).
In addition, on Monday 3 November between 9pm and 5am, there will be stop/go traffic management in place in this area where road users can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
Earlier plans had been to close the section of State Highway 1 at nights between Waipara and Kaikōura for a broader suite of roadworks.
