New Mobile Traders Bylaw Takes Effect

The new Tairāwhiti Mobile Traders Bylaw 2025 Ture-ā-Rohe Kaihoko Nekeneke o Te Tairāwhiti, which was adopted by Council in October will come into effect today Monday 10 November 2025.

The Bylaw regulates mobile trading in public places. It replaces the 2014 bylaw, with changes that make it simpler for people to read and clarifies the enforcement tools Council uses for monitoring compliance.

Environmental Health Team Leader Vincenzo Petrella says anyone that wants to trade in a public place needs to apply for license approval.

“Licenses are granted with conditions to maintain public health and safety, and mitigate potential risks like traffic management or congestion.”

The Bylaw and information on how to apply for a license is available on Council’s website.
