Incident – Whiritoa Beach

This morning at approximately 8.44am Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club's Search and Rescue (SAR) squad responded to a call that two people were in need of assistance on the rocks at the southern end of Whiritoa Beach, on the south-eastern side of Coromandel Peninsula.
Alongside Police and Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Whangamatā SAR responded via water with one IRB (inflatable rescue boat) and one rescue water craft (RWC), plus a ute to support on land.
Lifeguards assisted Police and Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter to extract two people off the rocks and one person from the water. Seven lifeguards responded in total.
