At 30 September 2025:
- the estimated resident population of Aotearoa New Zealand was 5,334,200 (provisionally)
- there were 2,685,100 females and 2,649,100 males
- the median age of females and males was 39.1 and 37.5 years, respectively.
During the year ended September 2025:
- New Zealand’s population grew by 32,900 (0.6 percent)
- estimated natural increase (births minus deaths) was 20,500 (62 percent of total growth)
- estimated net migration (migrant arrivals minus migrant departures) was 12,400 (38 percent of total growth).
