Masterton District Council To Open Workshops To The Public

Masterton District Council has agreed to open workshops to the public and live stream them where possible.

The decision gives residents direct access to the working discussions that shape council decisions. Community members can now attend workshops in person or watch them online, seeing the full scope of work that informs the choices affecting the Masterton district.

Mayor Bex Johnson says the change reflects the Council's commitment to working openly with the community.

"We want people to see what we're doing and how we're doing it. Opening our workshops means our community can watch the conversations as they happen, see the questions we're asking, and understand the work that goes into every decision we make.

"This gives our community a front-row seat to local government. Whether you're interested in economic development, infrastructure planning, or community services, you'll be able to see the breadth of work council tackles before any formal decision is made."

Workshops provide a space for councillors to discuss complex topics, ask questions of staff, and work through issues before full council meetings. Opening these sessions to the public view gives residents greater insight into the decision-making process.

The live broadcasts will be available online through the Masterton District Council YouTube channel, making it easier for people to stay informed without needing to attend in person.

"We know people are busy, and not everyone can make it to council chambers during the day. Broadcasting these workshops means you can tune in when it suits you, whether that's during your lunch break or in the evening.”

Full details on how to attend or watch meetings and workshops in person and online are available at the Masterton District Council website by searching ‘meetings’.
