Have Your Say On The Amalgamation Of MetService And The NZ Institute Of Earth Sciences
MetService, currently a state-owned enterprise, provides forecasts and warnings of severe weather to New Zealand under the Meteorological Services Act 1990.
The Government intends to bring meteorology, climate science, hydrology, and oceanography together to create a stronger, more connected weather-forecasting system. The Meteorological Services (Acquisition and Policies) Legislation Amendment Bill, an omnibus bill, would enable the amalgamation of the MetService with the New Zealand Institute of Earth Sciences (NZIES). It would also create a requirement for the NZIES to publish and maintain an access policy for observational weather data.
