Recreate NZ is thrilled to announce the return of the annual Illuminate Market - back in 2026 with a bold new energy and a refreshed identity that puts creativity and inclusion centre stage.

Happening on Saturday 28th March 2026 at Mt Albert War Memorial Hall and Reserve in central Auckland, Illuminate Market will spotlight the incredible strengths and entrepreneurial talents of young people with disabilities.

“With every Illuminate Market, we’re building a community that recognises the strength of diverse, creative minds,” says Sarah Ferens, Head of Moxie for Recreate NZ. “Illuminate is about challenging limiting perceptions and supporting financial independence through entrepreneurship and inclusive employment.”

The 2026 event also marks the launch of Illuminate’s new look that reflects the heart of the kaupapa.The new Illuminate design is inspired by the bright, illuminating colours of brain MRIs. Just as these scans reveal diverse brain functions, the design symbolises individuality, creativity and the unique ways people experience the world.

Visitors can look forward to a lively line-up including market stalls, food trucks, free live performances, creative workshops and fun activities for all ages. Most stallholders are creative entrepreneurs from the disability community showcasing original products, art and craft.

“I have been to every Illuminate event, and it has been different every time which is super cool to see. I love seeing all the different products that people make, they are all very unique and that is just awesome!” says Meg Young, former Chair of the Recreate NZ Youth Board.

Recreate NZ, a nationwide charity dedicated to providing life-changing experiences for young people with disabilities, established Illuminate Market in 2019. With all participants coming from disability backgrounds or communities working to challenge the status quo - Illuminate Market 2026 promises to be an unforgettable celebration of possibility!
