Kaipara Celebrates New Citizens From All Around The World
Communities across Kaipara are now home to 28 new official New Zealand citizens, following a ceremony at the Dargaville Lighthouse Function Centre on Thursday 18 December. The new citizens hail from 12 different countries: Australia, Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, UK, USA, Malta, Morocco, Philippines, Slovakia, and South Africa.

Kaipara District Council Mayor Jonathan Larsen officiated the ceremony and gave the new citizens a warm welcome, recognising them for making Kaipara their home.
“We’re proud to welcome our newest citizens and thank you for choosing Kaipara,” Mayor Larsen said.
"You have all called New Zealand your home, now you can also call it your country."
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Gordon Lambeth and Councillors Rachael Williams, Snow Tane and Craig Jepson, alongside Resident Naval Officer Lieutenant Commander Michael Smith representing the New Zealand Government.

The ceremony, the final of four for 2025, featured the oath or affirmation of allegiance to New Zealand, marking the final step on the path to citizenship.
With origins spanning the globe, the new citizens brought with them unique stories. Steven and Christina came to New Zealand from Germany 16 years ago.
“We came here for a holiday and never left,” Christina said.
Ana, originally from Fiji, said she loves New Zealand and is excited to be an official citizen.
“I love the people here and the beautiful scenery. It feels like home away from home,” said Ana.
