Auckland Harbour Bridge Maintenance Work Cancelled Due To Poor Weather
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising road users that planned resurfacing work on the Auckland Harbour Bridge has been cancelled due to heavy rain predicted for the city later this week.
The work had been scheduled to take place between 26 December 2025 and 6 January 2026.
The resurfacing work on the bridge requires a period of settled weather with no chance of rain to ensure that the bond between the surfacing material and the steel bridge deck is strong.
With the cancellation of the work, the bridge will remain in the four-lanes northbound and four lanes southbound configuration throughout the holiday period, with no restrictions in place.
The work will be rescheduled at a later date.
Notes:
Assuming fine weather, it takes three to four days to prepare the deck surface and apply a protective membrane before paving can take place.
It then takes at least two days for the surfacing system to cure.
