Summer Sounding Good In Market Place

There is still time to catch some tunes as part of the Summer Sounds in the CBD series in Blenheim.
Council’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Manager Nicola Neilson said the music events had drawn plenty of interest since starting in Market Place on 20 December. The series is running every Saturday afternoon until January 24 with an incredible line-up of local and visiting musicians performing at the rotunda.
“The idea is to encourage people to relax, listen, linger and enjoy summer in the CBD. We’ve had feedback that adjusting the times will enable people to do that more easily so the remainder of the series will start a bit earlier at midday and finish at 3pm,” Mrs Neilson said.
Summer Sounds in the CBD is the first activation as part of Council’s Space Create initiative to revitalise the region’s two main CBDs in Blenheim and Picton. Mrs Neilson is working with the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce, Council’s Play Advocate and other interested parties on the new concept.

The Summer Sounds series will be followed by a chance for locals to ‘get their skates on’ with the arrival of an artificial ice skating rink in the Blenheim town centre later this month.
The state-of-the-art, artificial ice rink will be at Liz Davidson Park from 23 - 25 January between 10am and 5pm. Each ice skating session is at least 30 minutes and costs just $2 per person. This goes to Blenheim Scouts as a fundraiser.
“Both events are examples of the benefit of the Space Create concept in injecting energy, visibility and fresh ideas into the CBD. We hope to see many more exciting innovations such as temporary public art, installations and community-led projects popping up in our town centres in 2026,” Mrs Neilson said.
