Final Update Regarding Rainfall Event In Whangarei District

Whangarei District Council Chief Executive Simon Weston says that nearly all prior affected areas of Whangarei District are now accessible by road, and that affected campers have either left the area or made themselves safe after the heavy downpour that impacted north-east coastal areas this morning.

Roads between Ngaiotonga and Punaruku are still closed and are being worked on.

A small number of people remain at Community-Led Civil Defence centres in marae, and are being looked after. Northpower are gradually restoring electricity to affected areas.

While the urgency of the current situation has cleared, Civil Defence Northland are now preparing for more heavy rain forecast for later in this week.
