Mahurangi West Road Closed Following Landslip
Mahurangi West Road has been closed to the general public today following a safety assessment by Auckland Transport (AT) engineers.
Heavy rain over the past few days has caused a slip underneath the road which has compromised the safety and stability of the road.
AT road maintenance contractors are working on-site to stabilise the road and assess whether local ground conditions pose further slip risks.
During this time local residents will have managed access using to their homes using a single lane, but other traffic will be turned around by traffic management teams near the slip site.
AT is working closely with Auckland Emergency Management at this time, including on contingency plans in case we are no longer able to safely manage access along the road for local residents.
Mahurangi Regional Park now closed
Mahurangi Regional Park has been closed by Auckland Council since it is no longer accessible by road, with Mahurangi West Road being the sole route in and out.
AT and our road maintenance contractors will be sharing regular updates with the local community as we continue to assess the road’s condition and plan for repairs.
We would like to thank residents and the Mahurangi community for their patience and understanding as we work to make the road safe.
Holidaymakers and visitors are strongly advised to avoid the area and allow recovery crews to fix the road as quickly as possible.
