Local Water Done Well – January Update
With less than six months until the Hurunui and Kaikōura Water Services Council Controlled Organisation (WSCCO) begins operation, work is underway to confirm pricing to residents; ensure any cost-increases are funded in the most responsible way and to keep water services as affordable as possible from day one.
The Long-Term Plans for both Hurunui and Kaikoura District Council already focus on the safety and certainty of water services for each District, as well as provision for cost-increases. New legislation requires water service providers to collect enough revenue to sustain long-term investment in those services.
It’s currently expected the cost of providing water services in the Kaikōura district will be met by Kaikōura water services users, and the costs of providing water services in the Hurunui district will be met by Hurunui water services users. Joint costs will be appropriately allocated between the two districts.
Both Hurunui and Kaikōura District Council understand what a privilege and incredible responsibility it is to be able to deliver a Water Services Organisation that is fit for purpose and built for the future. Every decision made in the establishment of the WSCCO, is being geared towards the health and wellbeing of all residents. Please keep a close look -
