Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter Undertakes 64 Missions In January

Your Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter carried out 64 missions within the Waikato, King Country, Coromandel, and surrounding regions over the month of January.

These missions included 37 inter-hospital transfers, six medical events, 10 rural/farm incidents, two motor vehicle accident and nine miscellaneous missions.

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was in high demand across the Coromandel region, responding to incidents in locations such as Whangamatā, Whitianga, Pauanui, Paeroa, Komata, and Waihi to provide lifesaving care in timecritical situations. In addition, the crew was regularly seen in Rotorua, completing 11 interhospital transfers, as well as four in Taumarunui, six in Thames, and four in Tokoroa.

The month started with the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Kerepehi after being tasked to assist a male in critical condition. The patient required a Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) which was performed on scene by the onboard Critical Care Flight Paramedic. This is an advanced airway management used in trauma situations. The patient was then flown swiftly to Waikato Hospital to receive further advanced care.

That evening, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Taumarunui Hospital for a female who had sustained injuries following a motor vehicle accident. She was flown to Waikato Hospital to receive further care.

On Sunday afternoon, January 4th, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Lichfield for a male who sustained injuries following a farm related accident. The patient was treated on scene and airlifted to Waikato Hospital for further advanced treatment.

On Thursday morning, January 8th, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Komata for a male who had sustained multiple trauma injuries following a motorcycle accident. The patient was stabilised on scene and flown to Waikato Hospital to receive further advanced treatment.

On Sunday morning, January 11th, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Kawhia for a female in serious condition. She was stabilised on scene for approximately 20 minutes before being airlifted to Waikato Hospital for further care.

On Monday, January 12th, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Waitomo to assist a female who had fallen and sustained serious injuries. Due to the remote location, the Critical Care Flight Paramedic was winched into the thick bush to assist the patient. She received treatment on scene before being winched out and flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Friday afternoon, January 16th, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Otewa for a male who had sustained serious injuries following a motor vehicle accident. He was treated on scene and flown to Waikato Hospital to receive further treatment.

On Thursday morning, January 22nd, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Waihi Domain for a male who was suffering from a medical condition and was transported to Waikato Hospital to receive further treatment.

Not long after, the rescue helicopter crew were tasked to Waihi Domain for the second time, attending to a man experiencing a medical condition that required further treatment at Waikato Hospital. He was flown promptly to receive the additional care he needed.

On Monday morning, January 26th, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Hoe-o-Tainui for a male who had sustained trauma injuries following a quad bike related accident. He was stabilised on scene and flown to Waikato Hospital for further care.

The month ended with the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Lichfield for a male who had sustained serious injuries following a farm related incident. He was treated on scene and airlifted to Waikato Hospital to receive further advanced treatment.
