Lower Hutt Is The Sporting Capital Of NZ This March
Lower Hutt is set to become New Zealand’s community sporting capital this March, with a packed calendar of national tournaments and local events across the city.
The exciting line-up of events includes:
- NZ Masters Touch Rugby, 12–14 March
- National Women’s Open Club Softball Championship, 12–15 March
- New Zealand Secondary School National Softball Championship, 24-27 March
- SHE Women’s Triathlon – Wainuiomata, 8 March
- NZ Secondary School Kī o Rahi Secondary Schools National Competition, 30 March-1 April
- New Zealand Gaelic Football and Hurling Championships, 21-22 March.
- Indoor Netball New Zealand’s Senior Club Nationals, 12-15 March
- New Zealand Over-50s Cricket Inter-Provincial Tournament, 5-9 March
Mayor Ken Laban says the March line-up shows what Lower Hutt can offer as a host city.
“We want Lower Hutt to be known as the go-to place for community sport and major tournaments. We have the facilities, the volunteers and the community spirit to deliver outstanding events.
“This incredible March programme is just the beginning. My goal is to grow the number and scale of events we host each year so more people visit, stay and experience everything our city has to offer.
These events alone will bring thousands of athletes, supporters and visitors into the city. That means busy cafes, people staying in our short term accommodation, and a real boost for local businesses.”
From grassroots competitions to national championships, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are competing or supporting from the sidelines, March is shaping up to be a month to remember.
