Kiwi Get New Wheels - Enviro NZ Partners With Save The Kiwi To Support National Kiwi Translocation Programme
Enviro NZ, a leading environmental service provider, has announced a new partnership with national conservation charity, Save the Kiwi. The sponsorship sees the company supporting the safe movement of kiwi through the charity’s national Kōhanga Kiwi programme where predator-free kōhanga sites are established so kiwi can breed in safety.
The Enviro NZ Kiwi on the Move programme will help transfer kiwi from kōhanga sites to predator-controlled habitats across Aotearoa, boosting the kiwi populations where they have been absent for generations.

Enviro NZ Chief Financial Officer, Jason Miles says the partnership reflects a shared commitment to long-term environmental stewardship. “Kiwi are a taonga of Aotearoa. Supporting their protection goes beyond conservation alone. It’s about restoring ecosystems, backing community-led action, and taking responsibility for the environments we operate in every day.”
Save the Kiwi Chief Executive, Michelle Impey says partnerships like this are essential to scaling conservation outcomes nationwide. “Kiwi translocations are complex and resource-intensive. Enviro NZ’s support enables us to move more birds safely and work alongside iwi and community groups preparing predator-safe habitats for their return.”
Enviro NZ is investing significant funding in the partnership, which will see the safe relocation of kiwi from protected breeding sites to predator-controlled habitats across New Zealand.
Since 2022, more than 600 kiwi have been successfully transferred to new homes including Mākara (greater Wellington), Tongariro, Taranaki Mounga, Ruahine, Nelson and Waiheke Island. Further transfers are planned with work well underway for the kiwi handling season which runs through until the end of May.
The partnership also includes opportunities for Enviro NZ staff to participate in conservation activity alongside Save the Kiwi teams.
“This partnership forms part of Enviro NZ’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility and supporting initiatives that deliver measurable, lasting impact for New Zealand. We’re very excited to be involved with Save the Kiwi,” Jason Miles added.
