Update: SH1/carmen Road Work, Closures Cancelled

Road resurfacing work planned for State Highway 1/Carmen Road in Christchurch next week (as outlined below) is no longer proceeding. This means the intended two nights of closures between Waterloo Road and State Highway 73/Yaldhurst Road will not be necessary.

If this work is revisited, notice will be provided.

9 March 2026 – Partial closure for SH1 near Hornby

Planned road resurfacing next week on State Highway 1/Carmen Road in Christchurch is due to mean the night closures of a traffic lane, but a detour will be available.

The section of SH1/Carmen Road between Waterloo Road and State Highway 73/Yaldhurst Road is scheduled be closed to northbound traffic on the nights of Tuesday 17 March and Wednesday 18 March, from 9pm to 5.30am the following day.

A detour will be available via Waterloo Road, Pound Road and SH73/Yaldhurst Road (see detour map below). People are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly.
