International migration statistics give the latest outcomes-based measure of migration, which includes estimates of migrants entering or leaving New Zealand.

Annual migration
Provisional estimates for the January 2026 year compared with the January 2025 year were:
- migrant arrivals: 137,500 (± 1,300), down 1 percent
- migrant departures: 114,200 (± 1,100), down 5 percent
- annual net migration: gain of 23,200 (± 1,600), compared with a gain of 19,700 (± 200).
Annual migrant arrivals peaked at 234,800 in October 2023 year.
