Take Your Passion For Democracy To The World Stage

The Office of the Clerk is looking for two young people to represent New Zealand at the next Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP) in Sydney, Australia.

The programme is modelled on Commonwealth parliamentary practice, and the New Zealand delegates will join representatives from the 56 Commonwealth nations.

This year, the theme of the event is “Democracy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. CYP delegates will be immersed in a mock parliament or legislature, supported by experienced parliamentary officials and experts.

That makes this a unique opportunity to develop skills in democracy, governance, networking, and diplomacy.

Eligible people must:

  • Be between 18 and 29 years old in July this year
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Have an interest in the Commonwealth, political, and parliamentary affairs
  • Have a commitment to their local community
  • Live in New Zealand and meet the passport and visa requirements to travel to Australia for the week of 26–31 July 2026.

An understanding of issues affecting the Pacific region would be an advantage.

If this sounds like you, apply by completing the below form by Tuesday 7 April.
