Takanini SPCA Op Shop Coming To Support Growing South Auckland Community
SPCA is pleased to announce it will be opening an op shop in a new, upcoming location at 197B Great South Road, Takanini on Saturday 28 March. This move marks a significant step in SPCA’s commitment to supporting communities across South Auckland, including nearby areas such as Waiata Shores and Manurewa.
The new site places the store in the heart of a rapidly growing retail hub, offering greater visibility and accessibility for residents. With South Auckland facing ongoing challenges around animal welfare, along with socio-economic hardship, the Takanini Op Shop aims to be more than just a retail space — it’s a way to give back.
The shop offers a larger space and will be able operate as a home store offering office furniture and homeware along with fashion and general items.
“We’re thrilled to join the Takanini community,” says Gwen Stege, Regional Manager. “This store is a chance for us to meet a real need — offering affordable, sustainable shopping options while also helping SPCA support animal welfare in the region. We’re looking forward to building strong local connections and making a positive impact.”
The store will offer a wide range of second-hand goods, with all proceeds going toward SPCA’s vital work protecting animals in need. As part of the launch, SPCA is calling on the community to help stock the shop with donations, particularly furniture and to consider volunteering.
SPCA is actively seeking volunteers to help set up and run the store. Whether you’re passionate about animal welfare, sustainability, or simply want to give back, your support can make a real difference. Volunteer here www.spca.nz/volunteer-takanini
