Far North And Kaitaia Now Isolated Due To Flooding
Conditions are deteriorating in several locations on the Northland state highway network – with SH10 Kaeo now CLOSED due to flooding.
With no detours available to or from Kaitaia – Kaitaia township and the Far North are now isolated.
Road users should delay all travel in the region if possible.
Updated closures and conditions:
- SH1 Mangamuka – ROAD CLOSED due to flooding.
- SH1 Mangamuka Gorge – ROAD CLOSED as a proactive safety measure.
- SH10 Kaeo – ROAD CLOSED due to flooding. No detours available.
- Kaitaia–Awaroa Road via Broadwood – ROAD CLOSED (Far North District Council).
- SH10 / SH11 Puketona – Surface flooding present.
NZTA is working closely with emergency services and lifeline utility groups to monitor impacts and coordinate the response.
Roading crews are actively monitoring conditions and responding where it is safe to do so.
Road conditions can change rapidly — please be prepared for roads to remain closed or for further closures at short notice.
