Northland State Highway Network Flooding Update
Severe weather continues to effect the Northland state highway network – with multiple routes closed due to flooding.
Road users should delay all travel in the region if possible.
If you must travel, check the NZTA Journey Planner for the latest updates, drive to the conditions and be prepared as there may be flooding, trees down or slips on your journey.
Updated closures and conditions:
SH1 Whakapara – ROAD CLOSED - Detour via Jordan Valley Road and Hukerenui Road (not suitable for heavies)
SH1 Rangiahua – ROAD CLOSED – No detour
SH1 Mangamuka – ROAD CLOSED – No detour
SH10 Kaeo – ROAD CLOSED – No detour
SH15 North of Kaikohe – ROAD CLOSED – Detour via SH1 and SH12
SH12 Waimamaku – ROAD CLOSED – No detour
Road users may also encounter flooding on sections of SH15 between Titoki and Pakotai due to its proximity to the river.
NZTA is working closely with emergency services and lifeline utility groups to monitor impacts and coordinate the response.
Roading crews are actively monitoring conditions and responding where it is safe to do so.
Road conditions can change rapidly — please be prepared for roads to remain closed or for further closures at short notice.
