SPCA Launches First-Ever National Lottery To Help Sick, Injured And Vulnerable Animals
April 08, 2026
SPCA is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever national lottery, giving New Zealanders a brand-new way to support animals in need — and the chance to win incredible prizes worth over $85,000.
With only 10,000 tickets available, supporters have excellent odds of winning while helping protect more than 55,000 animals SPCA cares for each year across Aotearoa.
“Every ticket purchased directly helps an animal who needs us,” says SPCA Palmerston North Centre Manager, Jody Lockwood. “Whether it’s a frightened kitten, an injured dog, or a neglected farm animal, your support ensures they receive the care, treatment and compassion they deserve.”
“Every day, we see animals arrive frightened, injured, sick, or severely neglected. It is very rare for an animal that comes into our care to not require some kind of medical intervention. The cases we’re seeing now are more complex and require more time and veterinary treatment than ever before.
“It can take weeks or even months of dedicated and sometimes intensive care to help these animals recover from injury or illness, and that’s why this lottery is so incredibly important. It provides an invaluable resource that allows our teams on the ground to not only respond to these cases, but also be proactive and work to reduce the number of animals requiring care in the future,” Jody says.
Tickets are just $25, and every purchase puts supporters in the draw to win:
• A 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid Sport (MRP $60,468) - named Best Family Car of the Year by DRIVEN Car Guide and Autocar
• A Wendy Wu Asia Tour valued at $15,000
• A $5,000 Harvey Norman e-gift card
Plus, those who get in early will also be entered into the Early Bird Prize draw for a $5,000 Prezzy Card, closing May 5.
Jody says the lottery comes at a crucial time. “Right now, our Centres are seeing more animals needing help than ever before,” she says. “This lottery is a fun and meaningful way for people to make a real difference — and maybe even drive away in a brand-new hybrid SUV.”
The Subaru Forester Hybrid Sport grand prize is a particular highlight.
“It’s an amazing vehicle for Kiwi lifestyles,” Lockwood adds. “Fuel-efficient, spacious, and perfect for anyone who loves to get out and explore — especially with their pets.”
SPCA hopes the lottery will become a new annual tradition, helping ensure vulnerable animals across the country continue to receive lifesaving support.
“Every ticket is an act of kindness,” says Jody. “If you’ve ever thought about helping animals, this is a fantastic way to do it.”
