Extra Public Transport For Warriors Anzac Day Game Before Rail Upgrades
Extra Metlink train services and buses will be running for the Warriors vs Dolphins game at Hnry Stadium on Saturday 25 April (Anzac Day). From Sunday 26 – Monday 27 April Wellington rail network upgrades continue with buses to replace train services on the Kāpiti, Hutt Valley, Johnsonville and Wairarapa lines.
Warriors vs Dolphins
Trains on the Johnsonville, Hutt Valley and Kāpiti Lines will have increased capacity before the game and extra services afterwards. The Wairarapa Line will operate on its standard timetable.
Bus routes will have increased capacity, and the East-by-West ferry will be running at standard operating times.
Standard fares will apply on Metlink services and in addition to Snapper cards, full-fare adult passengers can now pay using Visa and Mastercard contactless payments on Metlink buses and trains. Simply tag on and off using Snapper validators or platform card readers. Snapper and contactless payments offer the most affordable way to travel.
Plan ahead and travel early on game day using the latest travel information on the Metlink app, website, or by calling 0800 801 700.
Buses replacing trains
On Sunday 26 and Monday 27 April, KiwiRail will continue work to strengthen the network and prepare for the new trains coming in 2028/29.
Buses will replace train services on the Kāpiti, Hutt Valley, Johnsonville and Wairarapa lines. SH2 over the Remutaka Hill has reopened to all traffic, including heavy vehicles, after closing on Tuesday night (21 April).
KiwiRail’s work will include track maintenance on the Kāpiti Line north of Plimmerton, installing an inspection walkway across Hutt Road near Kaiwharawhara, rerailing south of Ava Station on the Hutt Valley Line and work to install a new substation at Naenae and Trentham.
All bus replacing train services will depart from Platform 10 at Wellington Station and from designated bus replacement stops at other locations.
Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead by checking timetables on the Metlink website or app before travelling.
