Don’t Rely On Metro’s Regular Routes To Take You Home From Six60 + SYNTHONY
Metro is urging concertgoers to plan ahead for their travel home from the Once in a Lifetime concert headlined by Six60 + SYNTHONY happening at One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha on Saturday 16 May 2026.
Metro’s regular bus routes are very limited at 11pm, when the concert is set to finish, meaning concertgoers shouldn’t rely on these for their travel home. These services also conclude by 12.20am. However, Metro’s Event Direct service still has availability – it's a pre-booked shuttle service which can pick-up and drop-off customers up from 11 different locations around Christchurch, taking them directly to and back from Latimer Square and Ara – a short walk from the stadium.
Canterbury Regional Council Public Transport Core Service Lead Councillor Joe Davies said Event Direct is the smart choice.
“It’s a direct, guaranteed ride into the city and home again,” Councillor Davies said.
Eventgoers are being warned Metro’s scheduled services will be particularly limited post-event.
“We have very few scheduled buses running at 11pm on a Saturday and it’s not possible for us to increase those due to limitations around drivers’ hours, so we encourage any eventgoers wanting a lift home to book with Event Direct,” said public transport general manager Stewart Gibbon.
“Event Direct has been set-up so we can manage demand for our existing services and at facilities such as the interchange, giving customers a better experience whether they are attending events or taking the bus for other reasons,” Stewart said.
Bookings for Event Direct close at 5pm on Friday 15 May so eventgoers are encouraged to get in early.
“Get in now and beat the queues on the night. What we don’t want is people thinking they can rely on our normal Metro services, unaware that there aren’t many of these services running at that time of night,” Stewart said.
Spaces can be booked at metro.co.nz/eventdirect.
Early bird tickets are $5 per person each way and $10 return – this pricing is available until 5pm Saturday 9 May 2026. Regular prices are $6.25 per person each way and $12.50 return.
For the 16 May 2026 Once in a Lifetime concert, the 11 shuttle pick-up and drop-off locations will be
- Parklands - Queenspark Drive
- The Palms
- Northwood - Supa Centa
- Papanui – Northlands
- Burnside Park – Memorial Avenue
- Fendalton – Memorial Avenue
- The Hub Hornby
- Halswell shops
- Lincoln Road – Parade Court
- Sumner Village – Wakefield Avenue
- Ferrymead shops
Delays are expected to normal Metro services due to road closures and traffic. Manchester Street Superstop will be closed at the time the concert finishes.
