Wet Weather Impacts Marlborough Roads; Strong Winds Forecast
Marlborough Roads crews have been out assessing the network following heavy rain across Marlborough. There are many areas of surface flooding, especially in the Pelorus and French Pass areas.

Opouri Road from the start of the road and Tunakino Valley Road at French Pass are now closed due to flooding.
There is also a small slip partially blocking Ronga Road approximately 11km from the start of the road. The road is open, but people are urged to drive carefully.
There is surface flooding on SH6 between Renwick and Nelson. Please drive with caution and to the conditions.
Roads closed are as follows:
- Kaiuma Bay Road at Daltons Bridge and Te Hoiere Road
- Te Hoiere Road
- Opouri Road
- Tunakino Valley Road
Marlborough Roads appreciates the public’s patience while its teams work to keep the roads safe.
A Heavy Rain Warning – Orange remains in place for Marlborough until 9pm this evening, Friday 8 May.
Council engineers and hydrologists will continue to monitor the event overnight, but do not expect any significant issues in the Wairau River catchment with a moderate flood expected.
A Strong Wind Warning – Orange is also in place from 1pm Friday 8 May to 8am Saturday 9 May for Marlborough, southeast of the Awatere River.
MetService have forecast severe gale north to northwesterlies gusting 140 km/h in exposed places. Driving may be difficult, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
