SHELL AVIATION FUEL UNDER QUARANTINE
Shell New Zealand Ltd purchases some Aviation fuel (avgas) from Mobil in Wellington, which in turn has been supplied by Mobil's Altona refinery in Australia.
Shell have this morning received advice from Mobil that their contaminated avgas manufactured at Altona refinery is more difficult to remove from fuel systems than previously thought.
Shell's Corporate Communications Advisor, Aimee Driscoll says we have decided to again quarantine storage at the Hastings Bridge PA Network site and the Wellington Network site each of which had previously held some of Mobil's contaminated stock.
"All other Shell locations are unaffected. We plan to empty the storage tanks and re-clean with a process that has been advised to us by Mobil today.
"We apologise for this inconvenience, but your safety is our prime concern."
