Grant's Whisky Named Distiller Of The Year For 2nd Year Running

Independent Scotch Whisky Distiller Scoops Industry's Top Accolade and 18 Awards including Gold Medals for Glenfiddich, The Balvenie and Grant's

William Grant & Sons has won the IWSC Distiller of the Year accolade for an unprecedented second year running, having been awarded 18 trophies and awards by the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2000.

The Scottish independent family owned company also won The IWSC Trophy for Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky (under 12 years old) for The Balvenie Founder's Reserve 10 Year Old and six gold medals for Glenfiddich, The Balvenie and Grant's. The IWSC judges also awarded Sandy Grant Gordon, William Grant & Sons' former chairman and direct descendant of the company's founder William Grant, The Lifetime Achievement Award for services to the Scotch whisky industry.

The world's number one single malt Glenfiddich impressed the judges, having received seven awards including a gold medal for Glenfiddich Thirty Year Old. As well as The IWSC Trophy for Best Single Malt, The Balvenie also received three gold medals, one each for Founder's Reserve 10 Year Old, PortWood 21 Year Old and The Balvenie 1967 Vintage Cask.

Receiving The Lifetime Achievement Award at the IWSC announcement at the London Wine Trade Fair in London, Sandy Grant Gordon commented: "I am delighted and honoured to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the IWSC, particularly as William Grant & Sons has been confirmed as the Distiller of the Year for the second year running.

"Ever since my great great grandfather William Grant founded The Glenfiddich Distillery in 1887, William Grant & Sons has been an independent family company committed to quality. I am very proud to have played my part in this philosophy which still rings true today and take great pleasure in accepting this prestigious award," he said.

Commented William Grant & Sons' newly appointed Group Managing Director, Patrick Thomas: "This latest success reflects William Grant & Sons' status as a Scotch whisky distiller of international renown and this success is due to the continued passion and commitment of our distilling staff and to the consistently high quality of our Scotch whisky brands."

In total, of the 18 Scotch whiskies entered, 15 received medals and trophies, giving William Grant & Sons the highest percentage of medals to entries of any distiller in the world for the second year in a row.
