Commerce Commission

AUCKLAND, 12 October, 2000 – In response
to the New Zealand Commerce Commission’s announcement today
declining Shell’s application to acquire the New Zealand
business of Fletcher Challenge Energy, the Chief Executive
Officer of Fletcher Challenge Limited, Mr Michael Andrews,
said that until the Commission’s full decision is released
next week and we understand details of its concerns and
Shell’s response, we are unable to make any further
comment.
