New Business Organisation Established
December 13, 2000
A new business organisation, “Business New Zealand”, has been created by constituent members of the New Zealand Employers’ and Manufacturers Federations.
This was announced today by Mr Doug Marsh, who has been elected the first President of Business New Zealand.
“Business New Zealand is an entirely new organisation which will take over the roles presently performed by the New Zealand Employers’ and the New Zealand Manufacturers Federations, but will have a wider brief. It will commence operations by about the end of the first quarter of next year.”
Simon Carlaw has been appointed Chief Executive Designate of Business New Zealand. He is presently Chief Executive of the Manufacturers Federation.
“It has been clear for some time that the interests of the Founding Members are converging and that we all need a strong united voice for effective representation in Wellington. These needs will be met by the new organisation.”
The Founding Members of the organisation are: Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern), Employers and Manufacturers Association (Central), Canterbury Manufacturers Association, Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce and the Otago-Southland Employers Association.
Mr Marsh said other business organisations will be joining as Ordinary Members or as Affiliates.
He said that prior to April 2001, the Employers’ and Manufacturers Federations will operate as separate entities but there will be greater coordination of policy. Staffing
appointments will be made over the next few months
as will decisions on accommodation, branding and other
issues.
