A Bouquet For Dr Cullen Re ACC Repayments
Congratulations are due to ACC Minister Dr Cullen for taking up the claims of the businesses and self employed who paid twice for their accident compensation insurance, the Employers & Manufacturers Association says.
"Government's action in reimbursing businesses who paid twice is the only just solution," said Alasdair Thompson, EMA's chief executive.
"EMA and the Employers Federation actively promoted this cause. We urged Government to investigate ways to put to rights this injustice. All credit must go to Dr Cullen for picking up this thorny issue.
"We also urged the previous Government not to implement that part of the law that gave rise to it in the first place, but it wasn't interested.
"The repayment affects some businesses that existed before 1980 and subsequently changed their structure, and it became a problem during 1999."
