Whitcoulls Moves Into Music
New Zealand’s top bookseller Whitcoulls is moving into music next month with the acquisition of award-winning music retailer Cedica.
Announcing the deal today, Fran Stanley, chief operating officer for Whitcoulls, said the company’s move into music was “inevitable given our standing as a leading provider of entertainment”.
“Music was the one area missing from our mix of books, magazines, dvds, videos, stationery, games and cards. Whitcoulls is no longer just a retailer of books and stationery – it provides entertainment at all levels,” she added.
Cedica was started in 1999 in Auckland’s High Street. It won the Top Shop Award for start up business last year and has quickly established an excellent reputation for service and music.
The first Cedica store-within-store will open in Whitcoulls’ Queen Street in early April. A second will open in the new Whitcoulls concept store at Botany Town Centre in early May.
Cedica’s one store, in Auckland’s High Street, will
close at the end of March and its owner Phil Macdonald will
be responsible for establishing the new stores within
Whitcoulls.
