Not Enough Consideration Of Employers In New ACC Bill

Employers want a recognised role in the second phase of ACC legislation which is being considered by Parliament.

Business NZ Executive Director Anne Knowles told a select committee hearing today that there should be a greater role for employers in the Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Bill.

"Despite the fact that employers are often best placed to determine a staff member's work capacity, they are shut out of the work capacity testing procedure," Ms Knowles said.

"As well, the current ACC scheme excludes employers from the accident reporting process - making it harder for them to introduce timely rehabilitation measures."

Ms Knowles said employers should also get a code of rights under the Bill, similar to the code of rights for employees. "Given that employers are the funders of the Employers' Account, there is a strong case for such a code to assist employers in best understanding and managing their ACC rights and obligations."
