NZPA Journalists Strike
Journalists at the national news agency NZPA are on strike again.
They walked off the job at 11.30pm yesterday (Thursday) and are not expected to return to work until noon today.
The latest strike is part of an ongoing dispute over the right to choose whether to be on a collective or individual employment agreement.
The company wants to deny many of its staff the right to be covered by collective agreement. It is trying to exclude filing editors, desk editors, branch office staff and anybody on a salary from the collective.
The action is expected to affect the flow of copy to the country’s afternoon newspapers.
The New Zealand Press Association is controlled by INL and Wilson and Horton. There have been strikes recently at papers owned by these companies, including the NZ Herald, the Dominion and the Press, over similar issues.
