Espresso Fast Business Data From TelstraSaturn

Speedway – Espresso Fast Business Data From TelstraSaturn

Speedway is one of the fastest and easiest ways to network offices across the Auckland CBD, offering a download speed of one Gigabit per second via TelstraSaturn’s super-high-speed, broadband, fibre-optic network.

“Our network is a true carrier-class, converged network enabling local, national, and international services – voice, data, video and television – by way of Internet Protocol,” says Tony Baird, Director of Technology for TelstraSaturn.

TelstraSaturn’s virtual Metropolitan Area Networks in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch provide not only high-speed metropolitan area services but also national and international connectivity offering unsurpassed broadband services.

“TelstraSaturn supplies the full range of telephone, data, Internet, mobile and cable TV services direct to our customers,” says Mr Baird.

“We can do this because we’re doing more than just laying fibre in the ground. Not only does our fibre-optic network provide truly massive bandwidth and blistering speed, but we’re also offering a range of products and services that add up to seamless end-to-end solutions. We believe none of our rivals can compete with that.”

In many cases, without any changes to a customer’s existing wiring scheme, services ranging from a telephone call to one-Gigabit-per-second Internet access can be supplied from a single telephone jack.

The Speedway network covers all of the CBD within the area bounded to the north by Quay Street, to the east by Symonds Street as far as Grafton Road, to the south by Karangahape Road as far as Hill Street, and by Hill, Union, Drake, Halsey, Fanshawe and Beaumont Streets as far as Jellicoe Street to the west (see map). (Speedway is only available at TelstraSaturn connectable premises.)

“The Auckland CBD is only the start,” says Mr Baird. “We are also the only company in the Auckland region with plans to roll out a fibre hybrid to residential and business customers over the next five years.

“We are also close to finishing a 1000-kilometre, high-speed, high-capacity fibre-optic main trunk backbone to connect Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.”

In the Wellington region, TelstraSaturn has already invested over $260 million, built 1300 kilometres of network passing about 120,000 homes, and services 35 percent of all homes that can connect to its network.

A $200 million network in Christchurch is now under construction and the first part of the network was activated on 1 March 2001.

“Once completed, our network will reach about 70 percent of New Zealand businesses and homes. In total, we plan to invest $1.2 billion between now and 2005,” says Mr Baird.
