Happy Strikes Are Here Again
Import News from the Importers Institute
Remember the days of frequent wharf strikes in support of the wharfies' rights to featherbedding? It seems those happy days are here again.
The Waterfront Workers Union gave notice of two strikes at the port of Auckland, the first for 24 hours from 11 pm on Thursday 21st, the second for two days, starting at 7 am on the 27th.
A government-appointed mediator will become involved in this dispute. It is not yet clear whether Minister Laila Harre will be allowed to fraternise with the strikers.
