Farmers’ Mutual Group Appoints Rural Marketing Specialist

Farmers’ Mutual Group, rural insurance, finance and investment specialists, has appointed David Clapperton as its new Group Manager – Marketing and Product. Mr Clapperton also becomes a member of the Group’s senior management team.

Mr Clapperton has extensive marketing and strategic planning experience following senior management positions in the dairy, local government and banking sectors in New Zealand.

Mr Clapperton joins Farmers’ Mutual from the Ruapehu District Council where he has been the Governance Support Manager responsible for finance, strategic planning, and information services. Prior to this position David was the Marketing Manager for Trust Bank Central in Hastings and was instrumental in developing and introducing a successful rural banking package for the regional bank. He also facilitated a range of commercial sponsorships with rural organisations.

He has also head the position of Marketing Manager for a Co-operative Dairy Coimpany based on the east coast of the North Island.

In his new role at Farmers’ Mutual, Mr Clapperton is responsible for the Group’s strategic marketing direction, including the development and promotion of insurance and financial service products to New Zealand’s rural sector.

Farmers’ Mutual Group Chief Executive Gordon Smith says, “David has extensive experience and knowledge of rural communities and he has chosen to build a career in provincial New Zealand. This will prove immensely useful in ensuring that we continue to meet the changing needs of the rural sector as we take our business forward.”

David has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree majoring in Marketing from Victoria University of Wellington.

Born and raised in the Hawkes’ Bay, David has been involved in a variety of community activities including Rotary, Lions, Chamber of Commerce, regional economic development groups and rugby refereeing to senior club level.

David and his wife Cheryl have two teenage children boarding at Iona College in Hawkes Bay and New Plymouth Boy’s High School in Taranaki. David intends settling in the Manawatu on a lifestyle block.
