Taxpayers To Benefit From Removal Of Rebate Deadline
The Institute of Chartered Accountants has welcomed the Government’s decision to remove the six-month deadline for claiming donation and housekeeper rebates.
“Taxpayers will definitely be the winners as a result of this decision,” the Institute’s Tax Director, Jeff Owens, said today.
“We estimate that $14 million of claims would have been disallowed this year alone, if this change were not made.”
Mr Owens said that in the Institute’s view, the reasons for introducing the 30 September deadline last year were never adequately explained.
“We have submitted several times that the time limit should be removed for all taxpayers, and the Government is to be congratulated for being prepared to revisit the issue.”
