Don't Worry - We've Got Three Weeks To Decide On Kyoto
The Government's programme to inform business about the complexities of the Kyoto Protocol and proposed policy options for achieving Protocol obligations - in the next three weeks - is far too rushed, says Business New Zealand.
"This period is the busiest of the year for everyone. The Kyoto issues are huge and will affect virtually all businesses in ways that most are yet to think about," said Business New Zealand Chief Executive Simon Carlaw.
"It is unlikely that such a hurried programme, determined by the Government's haste to enact legislation early next year, will succeed in informing people, much less achieving any real two-way communication about the best options for going forward.
"The one certain fact about the Kyoto Protocol is its implementation cost. Its impacts on New Zealand's growth targets deserve very careful thought and input by all sectors of the community."
