Buddle Findlay Appoints New Partners In Auckland, Wellington And Christchurch Offices

Buddle Findlay has appointed three new partners in its Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch offices.

David Thomson has been appointed partner in Buddle Findlay's Auckland office. As a partner in Buddle Findlay's Auckland business services team, David is involved in a wide range of corporate transactions and commercial contracts. He has expertise in mergers and acquisitions and has advised large national and international companies on major acquisitions. David joined the Auckland team in 2000. He first joined Buddle Findlay in its Wellington office where he spent five years working as a commercial solicitor, before moving to London where he spent several years as a senior associate in a corporate finance team at Clifford Chance. During his time at Clifford Chance, David worked on a wide range of mergers, acquisitions and disposals, including a number of significant cross border transactions throughout Europe. David rejoined Buddle Findlay's Wellington office on his return from London in 1999 as a senior associate, before relocating to Auckland in 2000 to work on transactional business. David has an LLB, BCom from the University of Canterbury.

Scott Barker has been appointed partner in Buddle Findlay's Wellington office. Scott is a member of Buddle Findlay's litigation and insolvency and credit recovery teams. His practice includes banking , insurance, insolvency and commercial litigation, as well as fraud (civil)/asset recovery. His experience includes acting for a number of receivers, liquidators, administrators, banks and financial institutions, creditors and debtors in a wide range of corporate insolvency and commercial litigation assignments.

In his time with Buddle Findlay, Scott has always been based in Wellington. Scott first joined in 1986, spending five years with the firm. He then spent five and a half years working in the insolvency and banking litigation teams of Cameron Markby Hewitt in London. From there Scott returned to New Zealand in 1996 and rejoined Buddle Findlay. He has spent the past four and a half years as senior associate.

Scott is a member of INSOL International. He is also a New Zealand Law Society representative on the NZLS/ICANZ Joint Insolvency Committee, a member of the Wellington branch of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and a member of the Insurance Lawyers Association.

Scott has a BA from the University of Otago and an LLB from Victoria University, Wellington.

Jan Etwell has been appointed partner in Buddle Findlay's Christchurch office. Jan is a member of Buddle Findlay's company law and commercial team and banking and finance team. Her experience includes acting as instructing solicitor and providing credit recovery advice to New Zealand and overseas banks as well as providing advice to corporate clients on a wide range of commercial transactions. Jan also provides securities advice to trustee companies and issuers. Jan joined the Buddle Findlay Christchurch team in 1996, having previously worked as a commercial solicitor for another Christchurch firm. Recently Jan has advised financial institutions on corporate lending and credit recovery operations and on the development and implementation of new banking services. She has also worked with a number of major co-operative companies in the primary sector. Jan is a member of the National Executive Committee of CanTeen, the Teenage Cancer Society of New Zealand.

Jan has a BA, LLB from the University of Canterbury.
